• Permanent 8/6 roster on a long-term open cut coal operation
  • Stable, established planning team on a long-term secured project
  • Scope to shape planning strategy across a large modern mobile fleet

Optimum Consulting is recruiting experienced Maintenance Planners for permanent, salaried roles on major open cut coal projects in the Bowen and Galilee Basins.

These are long-term contracts on large, modern mobile fleets. Our client has significant work secured for years ahead and is growing its planning team to match, which means genuine scope to influence how maintenance planning is done here.

Why this role

  • Permanent staff position on projects with years of secured work ahead
  • Large, modern mobile fleets well in excess of 100 units
  • A growing planning team, with genuine say in how the function develops as it expands
  • Camp accommodation, meals and PPE provided, with on-site gym and recreational facilities
  • Open to candidates based anywhere from Central to Northern Queensland, with fly-in and drive-in roles available depending on the site

The role

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will own the planning function for preventative maintenance and breakdowns, keeping site plant and equipment available and performing.

  • Day-to-day, short and long-term maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Developing fully resourced work packages with HSEC, production, engineering, maintenance and service providers
  • Creating and maintaining preventative and corrective work orders clean enough to schedule forward
  • Monitoring the maintenance management system for emerging issues and driving action
  • Delivering planned maintenance and repairs within agreed time and cost parameters
  • Monitoring inventory and raising requisitions for components through work orders
  • Maintaining site equipment files and statutory maintenance records
  • Managing warranty claims in line with agreed conditions
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of work management and asset management processes

About you

  • Four or more years' maintenance planning experience with heavy earthmoving and/or ancillery equipment
  • Open cut coal experience.
  • Trade qualified, with a Plant Mechanics certificate or equivalent, or a Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Time on the tools before planning is highly regarded. Diesel fitters and plant mechanics who have moved across into planning are the profile best suited.
  • Experience with a major CMMS or ERP-based maintenance system. The platform matters far less than your planning discipline, and site systems training is provided.
  • Intermediate Excel and strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor less experienced planners
  • Attention to detail, sound problem-solving, and a positive approach to change
  • Current Standard 11 and Coal Board Medical, or the ability to obtain both
  • Current QLD Class C driver licence

How to apply

Apply with a current CV, or contact Jack Challinor at Optimum Consulting on jackc@ogroup.com.au. Enquiries from planners currently exploring the market are equally welcome.
