Our client is a well-established, privately-owned resources company with a portfolio of high-quality coal mining assets across Queensland. With a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and technical excellence, they have built a reputation for delivering complex projects properly, from concept through to handover.

This is a permanent, Brisbane-based corporate role within their Group Technical Services team, playing a key part in how capital construction projects are scoped, tendered, delivered, and handed over across their operating assets.

About the role:

Reporting to the Group Manager Technical, you’ll be the central figure managing civil contract delivery and construction projects across our client’s operating assets. This isn’t a site-based role, you’ll be driving governance, contractor management, and project oversight from Brisbane, with regular exposure to site operations as needed.

You’ll manage the full lifecycle of projects: from technical and financial assessment and tender processes through to contract administration, quality assurance, and final handover. You’ll work closely with Production, Asset, Environment, and Community teams to get projects across the line, and you’ll have a genuine hand in shaping how the business’s construction delivery function evolves.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead civil contract management and construction project delivery across multiple operating assets
• Conduct technical and financial project assessments and make recommendations to senior management on scope, schedule, and budget
• Manage the full tender process from market assessment, contractor selection, and award recommendations
• Administer construction contracts including negotiation, variation management, claim review, and resource allocation
• Facilitate quality control and assurance, conformance reporting, and critical issue identification
• Drive effective cross-functional collaboration across Production, Asset, Environment, and Community teams
• Support the development of the business’s construction project delivery system and document control framework
• Contribute to department budgets, monthly reporting, and continuous improvement of project governance
• Ensure all project delivery aligns with the operation’s Safety and Health Management System and Environmental Authority

About you:

You’re a qualified engineer or construction professional with solid open cut coal experience and a track record of delivering projects in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. You’re commercially minded, comfortable running a tender process and managing contractors, and you bring the communication skills to hold your own with senior management and site teams alike.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in open cut coal
• Demonstrated experience managing mining construction projects and contractor relationships
• Strong contract administration skills, variation management, claims, and commercial negotiation
• Advanced MS Office capability and strong written and verbal communication skills
• Relevant RIIRIS, RIIOHS, and RIICOM competencies (or willingness to obtain)
• Senior First Aid Certificate and current open driver’s licence
• Must hold full Australian working rights, sponsorship is not available for this role
