An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Financial Controller to join a dynamic, founder-led Brisbane business and work directly alongside a well-known local entrepreneur. Based in Bowen Hills, this role will lead the finance function for a growing multi-entity business operating across wholesale, eCommerce, retail and events. This position sits at the centre of the organisation and plays a critical role in ensuring financial discipline, strong reporting and commercial insight to support continued growth.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will oversee the financial operations of the group and ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.

You will lead a small finance team and work closely with the leadership team to support strategic and operational decision-making.

This is a role for someone who enjoys operating in an entrepreneurial environment where initiative, accountability and problem-solving are valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate consolidated monthly financial reports 
• Develop and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts
• Maintain strong financial controls and general ledger integrity
• Manage year-end processes and external accountants
• Ensure compliance with all statutory and tax reporting requirements
• Develop operational dashboards across sales, margin, inventory and cash flow
• Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts
• Manage relationships with banking and finance providers
• Monitor working capital across inventory, receivables and payables
• Ensure compliance with loan covenants and financial obligations
• Maintain pricing models across wholesale, eCommerce and retail channels
• Model impacts of commodity pricing and foreign exchange movements
• Monitor gross margin performance and recommend corrective actions
• Partner with Sales and leadership on strategic pricing decisions
• Oversee Xero and integrated SaaS-based business systems
• Improve integration between CRM, production, POS, eCommerce and finance platforms
• Drive improvements through automation and AI where appropriate
• Reduce manual processes and improve reporting speed and accuracy

About You

You are a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys working closely with business leaders and helping organisations grow through better financial insight and discipline.

You are confident operating at both strategic and hands-on levels within the finance function.

Essential Experience

• CA/CPA qualified with minimum 7+ years' experience in Financial Controller or similar senior finance roles
• Strong experience in cash flow management and financial reporting
• Experience within inventory-based or product-driven businesses
• Advanced experience using Xero and integrated SaaS systems
• Proven ability to improve financial systems and reporting processes
• Strong analytical capability and commercial judgement
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
• Experience working within entrepreneurial or founder-led businesses
• Experience implementing automation or AI to streamline finance processes
