• Newly created leadership role
  • Lead carrier negotiations and national freight recovery
  • Hybrid role with attractive salary on offer circa $130 000

The Company

Our client is an established, privately owned Australian distribution business supplying a broad customer base through a national network of warehouses. Known for a values led culture the business is investing in a more disciplined, commercially led approach to freight as it grows.

The Role

This newly created position has clear ownership of freight costs, carrier relationships and invoice accuracy across the whole network. Leading a small team, it is a hands on role and suits someone with expertise in freight, transport or supply chain and is ready to move into a role with real commercial teeth: rate negotiation, tender processes and a genuine mandate to chase down cost leakage and make it stick.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining a national carrier network that's competitive on price and reliable on service, running tenders and rate reviews as needed.
  • Sitting across the negotiating table with carriers and 3PLs on pricing, contracts and service terms, and holding them to account through regular scorecards and reviews.
  • Taking ownership of how freight costs are recovered from customers, closing gaps that let revenue slip through unnoticed.
  • Getting hands-on with the numbers: checking carrier invoices line by line against agreed rates and actual shipments, chasing down credits where something doesn't add up, and signing off invoices within your authority.
  • Working day to day with warehouse and distribution centre teams to keep deliveries running smoothly, and stepping in when something goes wrong for a customer.
  • Acting as the internal expert other teams come to for advice on carriers, freight pricing and transport options.

The Person

  • A background in freight, transport, supply chain or logistics, with real exposure to carrier negotiation or freight commercials, not just day to day coordination.
  • Comfortable in the detail of invoices and numbers as well as in a room negotiating with a carrier providers
  • A qualification in logistics, supply chain, business or finance is a plus, but strong on-the-job experience will carry just as much weight.
  • Someone accountable and proactive who'll take genuine ownership of the freight function rather than waiting to be told what to fix.
  • Comfortable leading a small team and building relationships across warehouse, customer and carrier stakeholders.
